Choral Services
Choral Services at New College are sung regularly during the
University Terms. Roughly speaking these are: early
October to early December, mid January to mid March, and late April to late
June. The precise dates of services each
term are given below, and in the Music List,
which also gives details of the music sung. Information about the chapel
life of the College is available on the College website. Details of special services can be found on the termly Chapel Card. Visitors are most warmly welcomed to
services, and may enter the College either by the New Lane entrance, or via the
main lodge in Holywell Street. We have a variety of maps and written instructions on this site to help you find New College.
Term dates for 2012-2013 Trinity Term: Friday 19 April - Sunday 16 June People intending to come with a large party may contact the chapel administrator beforehand to reserve seats. The verger, Jamie Bell, is on hand in chapel to welcome and assist visitors. Every week one of the chapel services is selected for webcasting. Evensong Evensong is the principal choral office. It is sung on each night of the week, except Wednesday and Thursday, at 6.15 pm. (Sunday at 6 pm.). The form of the office follows the Book of Common Prayer, although the psalms sung are chosen from those set for the day, whether morning or evening. Sung Eucharist The Sung Eucharist, celebrated on a Thursday at 6.15 pm., follows the rite attached to Common Worship, although the mass settings used are ordinarily either in Latin or the English of the BCP. Christians of any denomination are invited to take Communion at this service. |
